5/31/2010: My Goodreads friend Michael pointed out that I had 665 books on my shelves and suggested I read something special for #666. Something like...this. My library recently got a copy, and I was kinda, slightly, sorta, maaaaaaybe thinking of reading it anyway, but I think this is a sign.
8/21/2010: Michael keeps reminding me that adding the book to my "To Read" list isn't enough. Apparently, I have to read it. What? Since when?
8/23/2010: Read, baby, read!
9/14/2010: I stopped reading at this point. But don’t tell anyone.
9/30/2010: I haven’t touched this book in over two weeks, so I think it’s safe to say I’ve given up. Quit. Resigned. Abandoned the people of Alaska to pursue lucrativecash speaking and book deals. I have no interest in finishing this term book right now. Will I try again someday? You betcha. Sarah Palin might go away, but she’ll never stay there.

Wow, Jacob, you're really coming through with the links. That one had me ROFLing. Or at least chuckling internally and sending links to people. "Blackbelt Patriotism" is another good possibility for 666...but not quite perfect enough I don't think.
Michael wrote: "Wow, Jacob, you're really coming through with the links."Yeah, I used to be an avid blogger. Old habits die hard. Fortunately, I think I still have some old Sarah Palin material I can use. Is it bad that I'm working on a review before reading the book? Hrmm...
But yeah, "Blackbelt Patriotism" doesn't sound crazy enough to take "Going Rogue"'s place at #666. Or is it? Your review of the book was more of a critique of Chuck's wacky WorldNetDaily essays than the book itself, so I didn't get a sample of the crazy. What's it like?
Actually, the one I read was "Chuck Norris's Secrets of Inner Strength," and it pretended to be a self-help book, not just Chuck Norris philosophizing on the answer to the question, "What makes me so amazing?" But it was, in fact, several answers to said question. Also, this was before he decided he could be a propagandist instead of just a lame actor, so the most politically annoying thing he'd done as far as I knew was wear a cowboy hat un-ironically. But the newest book in Chuck's ouvre is "Black Belt Patriotism," which may just be his "Pride and Prejudice." Among other great things included, it will help you "reawaken your personal American dream." Yowza! (By the way, I'm not making this shit up: http://www.chucknorrisnewbook.com/off... .)
Aha, I guess I got those two mixed up. No matter: Chuck Norris may be an accomplished martial artist, but Sarah might be president someday, making her the more dangerous one. So she gets to be #666.I guess the question now is, do I read or listen?
Depends...If you can find a version with James Earl Jones or Morgan Freeman reading it, get the audio book. But, um, if Palin is reading it herself, don't go audio. I don't want them to find you with a noose around your neck in a closet, nor do I want you to scream "I can't take it anymore" and swerve into oncoming traffic. When choosing which way to go, think of your sanity first.
Going Rogue: An American Life by Sarah Palin. Audiobook read by James Earl Jones, Morgan Freeman, and William Shatner. That would be the best thing ever.Unfortunately, it's just Sarah.
You, Jacob, are a fool, a communist, and a procrastinator. Get to reading! I'm out here among the crazies all by myself.
I shall not refudiate, as I refuse to do anything that can be construed as supporting Palin's new word inventions. But I shall add that you are a fucker as well. I expect you to read all weekend until you've rectified this situation; otherwise, I'll take it as proof that you hate white people and black people and animals and babies and the elderly. And everyone.
Whoa there, big fella. You sound angrier than a rattlesnake in a beehive. If you ask me, you've been readin' too much of that there Ann Coulter woman. I reckon mebbe you oughta put the book down for a bit, maybe take a cold shower or somethin'.
I'm heading to Alaska so I can get a certain gal named Sarah drunk and take advantage of her. Maybe then I can get a signed copy!
I may be angry, but it's the fault of the goddamned liberal media! They have control of everything, you know. . . minus the big corporations, the radio, most of the television stations, and the newspapers in every city I've ever lived in, but they've got EVERYTHING ELSE.Brad, I hope your trip to Alaska is successful in many ways. Watch out, though, I'm pretty sure that woman packs heat.
Michael wrote: "Brad, I hope your trip to Alaska is successful in many ways. Watch out, though, I'm pretty sure that woman packs heat. ..."Good call. I'll make sure to bring condoms. Who knows what Levi brought into the house.
Noooo! Michael finished the Coulter book...quitter!Or maybe you're the winner for being strong enough to know when to fold them and walk away?
How Sarah Palin-like of you, Jacob! When you've already agreed to follow through on something big and important, back out and go write about the experience. I always said you weren't qualified to read this book.**I never said that, actually.
Eh? Eh! wrote: "maybe you're the winner for being strong enough to know when to fold them and walk away?"Dammit, Eh!, now I have country music stuck in my head!
And Michael--it's not really Palinistic of me at all. Well, the quitting is, but that's where it ends. Because I'm not making a big deal of this. I'm not quitting the book to write about quitting the book, or going on tour to speak about how I quit the book because my country needed me. I was actually going to write about the experience after I finished the book (I had a good review--or several mini-reviews--planned), but since I failed, I'm not gonna.
Anyway, you can't really compare this to Coulter at all. Ann Coulter and Sarah Palin may both be media whores, but Ann Coulter has the decency to collect her check and go away. You can go for weeks without hearing about her latest controversy. But Sarah doesn't go away. She doesn't just want the money, she wants the fame, too. And she's getting it. So why keep reading the book when I can watch the news? The news is annoying enough.
