The problem with this book is its too long. As you know from reading the Kaylin books previously, Kaylin, who is a lowly Private in the Hawks, which are guards and detectives for the Empire, also happens to have been blessed or cursed with magical sigils and runes that are affixed all over her body. She is a Chosen, and through her magic has in previous books, healed the Barrani, an immortal race of beings who needed her gifts as the Chosen and as a midwife to save their Prince and Queen.
In this overlong saga in the same world, Kaylin learns that a mysterious destroyer of worlds, known only as the Devourer is journeying towards her Empire and world.
Sagara reference yet again the same group of characters from her other book - Sanbalis the dragon mage, Arkon, the dragon librarian, the Keeper of the Elemental Garden, Tiamaris, a dragon who is now a Fief Lord etc.
There is nothing super new in this book, most of the same players are present and the denouement, is essentially obvious from the beginning.
The best of these books, when Kaylin uses her powers to heal or help right a wrong are moving and you can over look some annoying facts, but this book, where Kaylin rights a wrong done to a godlike being, seems to me to be too pat, too predictable, and especially too long.
