** spoiler alert ** Madame Bovary depicts a bored and lonely wife. Marrying Charles maybe a big mistake for her but she cannot blame anybody but herself, her decision is subjective. She believes too much in love at first sight. What I hate about Emma was that she was so obssessed with love! But she didn't know what true love is all about. She described loved a hurricane that will just surprised you--love at first sight, her obssession with literature made her believe that when there is a damsel in distress there will always a prince to the rescue. With this kind of belief she had affairs with Leon and Rudolphe whom left her in the end because of her odd ways. When she gets obssessed with them she tends to be selfish in an odd way. For instance, she forbade Leon to talk to everybody, wanting him for herself. What made her tempted to have affairs is because of Charles, who was deeply in love with Emma. He is so dumb that he doesn't see the loneliness in her. I want to blame him for his stupidity that he knows that Emma was having an affair and yet he pretended to be ignorant about it. Is it martyrdom or stupidity? I think it was stupidity. If you really love someone you cannot give everything to that person, there should be something left in you. If you know that person is deceiving you no matter how painful it is let that person go. Don't fool yourself, vita brevis! Your world will only stop when you die. Why wait for death when you have the time of you life? At the end of the novel I can't helped to pity her because she didn't have the chance for a new beginning because she poisoned herself with arsenic, she cannot handle all her problems. Too bad she is a quitter!

Alejandra I continually felt frustrated and wanted to yell at her, "what are you thinking?". It was obviously nothing!
