I'd always thought of this as a little-kid book, all about tiny beings that live under the floors of old houses. But it's actually a wonderful book for tweens. Arrietty, the 12-year-old protagonist, is tiring of her dull, dusty life with her parents and wants to explore the big, literally, world above. The rest of the story unfolds with drama and humor. Great for read-aloud. My daughter and I have already begun Book 2, The Borrowers Afield. It's the retro series of the summer!
