This is the second book in Linda Lael Miller's McKettricks of Texas trilogy and deals with the middle McKettrick brother, Garrett. After the senator he is working for is involved in a scandal, Garrett returns home to the family ranch. Soon, he's involved with Julie Remington, a high school teacher with a young son. Julie and Garrett's romance is sweet and tinged with realistic concerns, making this another solid contemporary western read from Miller.
