The main character of this book is a three-hundred-pound dude who deceives his family about his college life, then he leaves Cornell and returns home in shame. I was a three-hundred-twenty-five pound dude who deceived my family about my college life, then I left Indiana and returned home in shame. At one point, I wondered if any of my friends knew Victor LaValle and told him about me. The first sixty or so pages felt too close.
