A lot happened in this book. It was a fitting ending, though I wish it had been a happier ending. A few things irked me in this book, particularly the repetition of phrases. Akkarin hardly ever smiled; instead, it was always "the corners of his mouth curling." I was close to screaming at the overuse of that phrase.

After the "might doesn't make right" theme in the last book, I really thought there would be more of a focus on strategy and skill over brute force and was disappointed when there wasn't. I also felt that some of the character development went away from the development in the first two books. This book seemed darker, and it seemed that some parts were almost arbitrary or put in out of convenience.

I did enjoy this trilogy, though. I liked the magical system, and the characters were generally likeable.
