Toni Morrison is one of those writers who seem to feel that it's ok to go off onto dreamlike tangents, since she's a genius. Well, she is a genius, but I don't enjoy a book that leaves me befuddled at the end. The ending doesn't have to be happy, the ending can be open to interpretation; all that's ok with me. But when I have to say "huh?", mull it over and STILL can't understand a lot of the book, I don't enjoy it. After reading the reviews, I see it's not just me (I AM a fairly intelligent person and love to read complex writers!) and that it's one of those books that you either love, in spite of, or because it's confusing or you hate it for the same reason. I gave it 3 stars because of Morrison's writing throughout most of the book. It certainly held my interest, but again, I was disappointed in an ending I do NOT understand at all.
