A very biologically view at why we do the things we do. I'm not sure I completely agree with everything said, but really thought-provoking and an interesting assessment of human nature. There is a reason that psychology classes are so popular. People want to know why we are the way we are and why we make the choices that we make. The Selfish Gene is Dawkins’s proposal that humans are motivated pretty much solely by our genetic best interest. Dawkins’ style is casual, fascinating, and even funny. His theory is that our bodies are just robots that they house our genes who run the show – its why we are attracted to the people we are, why we save those people we save, and why we believe in a higher power, “By dictating the way survival machines and their and their nervous systems are built, genes exert ultimate power over behavior.”Dawkins’ Selfish Gene is perfect for those looking for a seemingly basic and biological reason for our choices that can apply to many aspects of the human psyche. While the book can get a bit science heavy, it is explained well and definitely not targeted for only the science community. This book made me consider the possibility that the little voice inside all our heads is not our own inner-dialogue but our genes, pushing their own agenda.
