Cerulean Sins (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #11)
by Laurell K. Hamilton
by Laurell K. Hamilton
Just about when I was ready to give up on this series, I read this one. I found this one to be well-crafted. I've perfected the art of skimming the parts that I find uninteresting, and finally understand what I like and don't like about the series.
I don't actually find Anita or Richard (2 of the main characters) believable. Aspects of their characters are well drawn, but other aspects don't seem to me to be "true to character". I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but I've finally said it out loud and in public. However, the other characters are exquisite; unique, wonderful, and fully developed. I like a good story and I like that story to be character driven.
I realize that this is more a review of the series, than of this book, but it's a turning point for me.
If you like science fiction/fantasy novels that explore "alien" cultures in general, give this series a try. Just understand that not a couple of the characters may seem a bit forced or unnatural to you. And if you like vampire/werewolf stories in particular, you will probably love the series.
