This is an interesting treatment of Fitzgerald's original short story. For me it doesn't have the same force as the original. In this longer, less-ambiguous treatment of these characters I feel like I don't connect with them as well as the characters in the short story. The abbreviated timeframe of the screenplay does not allow the characters to develop as fully as they do in the original when they have had years to think about what they have been through. Some of the less important plot lines distracted from the core of the story and appeared at strange times. The happy ending left me less satisfied than the more crushing ending of the short story.
