I'm re-reading the books in my library as I try to sort out those that continue to appeal to me and those I can pass on to other readers. I bought The Pride of Chanur when it was published in 1981. I knew how to appreciate well written books then, but I had no clue what made them so enjoyable. This time around I could enjoy C.J. Cherryh's writing skills as well at the story.

The Pride of Chanur is a great sci-fi story with the premise that a trading union comprised of six distinctly different types of beings are thrown into chaos when one not-so-nice group accidently discovers a human spaceship.

This book is written in the rip-roaring, throw-everyone-in-the-middle-of-a-crisis style. It reads like a car chase scene at the movies. It's rich with subplots that support the story and contains believable twists within the main plot. From the first page to the last, it is a satisfying read.
