Surprisingly, I really liked this book. I had been putting it off because of the vampire thing, I think, but that actually ended up being a fun plot device...don't know why that surprises me, given that it's Christopher Moore.

Basically, the story is that Jody gets jumped by a vampire one night on her way home from work and is turned. From there its all about her trying to figure out what's happened to her and what the change means. She picks up Tommy as her daytime minion and the vampire that turned her starts to mess with them and the police, leaving bodies all over town. Moore-style craziness ensues from there.

The only thing that bugged me about this book was how abruptly it came to an end; it felt like a to-be-continued kind of ending. And I suppose it was, given that it's a trilogy now. But! This book was published in 1995 and the sequel didn't come out until 2007. I'm now rather thankful that I put off reading this one for so long because I probably would have been far less happy with it had I not known there was a second book out.
