Dutch Burton ex Atlanta cop and now chief of the Cleary NC police department is at the mountain cabin he owned with Lilly, his ex wife. They are closing it up after its sale and Dutch is still trying to get Lilly to come back, but she is having none of it. Packing up the final boxes and with a storm brewing, Dutch prods Lilly to leave with him for the trip down the Mountain, but she tells him to go ahead and she will follow in a bit. When she does leave the roads have become icy and the snow is falling heavily. As Lilly rounds a corner, a figure jumps out in front of her and in braking and trying to avoid it, she skids, side swipes it and goes over crashes into a tree. She is not hurt, but the man she hit is since they can’t use the car, they struggle back to the cabin. A bit of back story here, Dutch has been searching for clues to the location of 5 missing women and having little luck. The FBI gets interested and a couple of agents descend on Cleary and a prime suspect is tagged.
Back at the cabin, the man Lilly hit is that suspect and she is stuck in the cabin with him as the storm rages outside. She manages to get a broken message through to Dutch and he attempts to get to the cabin, but the road is impassible and in crashing they bring down the power line into Cleary.
Yes lots of things going on, FBI, scared locals among them some interesting characters keep the suspense going in this one as the search for the killer and rescue of Lilly continue.
