I hope this helps me understand some of the circumstances and views of those I serve in church...

And it has!! This book was very enlightening as to some of the mind sets and ways of the different classes in society. It was interesting to learn how people who are raised in each of the three classes live by "hidden rules". Hidden rules are just the way you do things not even realizing that they have been specifically taught to you. I knew I was raised in the middle class, but this book made it all the more evident. A couple things that really stood out to me was that if you part of the middle class you know how to set a table properly and you know how to decorate your home for the holidays. Really?! People don't know that?

Dr. Payne has a handful of books about poverty and helping underprivileged students. She has done a lot of research about poverty. She has done some good work.
