This was recommended by Neil Gaiman, who's something of a god to me, so I knew it would be good. It was even better than I was expecting, though. Sort of funny, strange, and sweet, subtly thought-provoking, and with just the right amount of pathos. I liked how it showed the beauty of the mundane, which is so often underappreciated, in addition to Asterios' inner life and dreams. The illustrations were gorgeous, too. I've realised, thinking back on it a while after I read it, that this is probably the perfect graphic novel, as close to flawless as it's possible to get with this medium. It may be a while before I find something so lovely.
