Despite your religious views, be they absent or strong, Gibran has given us a work of beauty that proves, to me at least, that faith is not necessary to be good and right.

A favorite quote from the book:

"Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music."

Sandy this is also my favorite quote and has helped me understand my marriage of 32 years

message 3: by Tree (new) - added it

Tree thank you for reminding me of one of my favorite passages in the book. it has been ages since I've read The Prophet and realize his messages are indelible :o)

Sahir D'souza I like that quote about marriage very much. In fact, the entire section on marriage is very lovely. But far and away my favourite is the one on children. That is very beautiful. Especially the end.
