Karl and Hope... Karl is a recurring character - a werewolf, a jewel thief, a lone wolf, who reluctantly has joined Jeremy's pack but stays on the fringe... a short story about him I cannot locate.

Hope... with a wealthy mother, spent time in an asylum when she first came into her powers and did not understand them, now a council investigator, and sensational newspaper writer about the supernatural, half demon, who revels in the chaos she feels from others, but struggles to make human, compassionate choices, and struggles to control the seduction of the chaos...

and the Cortez Cabal... the number one cabal, and Benitz is looking to recruit Hope & her talents by subtley calling in her debt to him on a short term assignment... to infiltrate a supernatural gang that works out of a club & targets people to make money... but hoping that she will enjoy the chaos and agree to join them in the future...

but the gang & the cabal are being manipulated by two of the gang who can make themselves look like others... and she is attracted to one of them and the low level chaos he exudes...

Lucas gets a few chapters in the book... he is being sucked into his father's cabal... in trying to protect Hope, and in reaction to the two in the gang who have killed 2 of this brothers, making it look his 3rd brother did the killing, & made an attempt on his father... so he steps up to help his father... where is this going to take him?

and Hope & Karl... Karl keeps coming back... there is an underlying attraction, and deep friendship, and humor... but the last time they were together, they had sex, and Karl regretted it... and left telling her she should date others... and Hope, who had tried to be undemanding, available, & would cook for him had her heart broken... but when Karl comes to see her, and finds out what she is doing, he is there for her... and helps her to see the chaos side of her as a side of her, the way the werewolf is a part of him... and the werewolf is not human, and has killed without the human side's consent... and she has to learn to accept herself, sublimate the excitement (with his help), and to be happy... with him...
