You Slay Me by Katie MacAlister is a breath of fresh air.

It's a way different brand of paranormal romance. There's no vampires hanging around. Just plain old guardians, witches, demons and hot dragons in human form.

Aisling Grey, a simple American courier (at least simple was what she thought she was), was to deliver an aquamanile (a bowl used in demon rituals) at France. However, arriving at the house of Madame Deauxville, she discovers Madame Deauxville's body hanged on top of a demon summoning circle. On the site of murder, Aisling meets mysterious Drake Vireo, a man claiming he is a dragon and Aisling a guardian (someone who guards portals to Abbadon/Hell). Of course, Aisling doesn't believe all this, but becomes desperate as the French police suspect her for murder, plus the fact that Drake Vireo stolen her aquamanile.

Looking for the thief and murderer, she goes to G&T (a club which caters for the magical people), she sees Drake and asks, or rather orders him to return her aquamanile, but having the sexual tension between them, Drake kisses Aisling, but she withstands the fires of his kiss, and ultimately becomes the Dragon's mate.

Aisling, after so many encounters of people claiming she is a guardian, feels the need to test driver her powers, so she purchases items for a demon summoning ritual. But seriously, she needs a Guardian 101 book, because she absolutely has no idea what she's doing and what she's up for. The ritual, in a way, became awry, because she summoned a demon in a newfoundland dog form who is unclaimed, which also makes her a demon lord.

Deaths begin to stack up around Aisling and the police are more wary of her. Even dragons are on her tail. But there's no stopping this guardian. Training or no training, they should watch out for her. For nothings gonna stop this chick. She's out challenging dragons and summoning Bael/Lucifer.

So move over vampires, because guardians and dragons are the new in. :)
