This is a story within a story of one man's determination to survive in a concentration camp. The camp commander demands that Daniel, who is working as a carpenter, make the perfect violin with the finest sound. If he should fail, death at the hands of "the doctor" would be his punishment. This is a very touching novel about dignity and survival.
