What a fun book to read! I will admit that the first chapter had to be re-read just because I wasn't used to the writing style. The broken english and unique descriptions were a little hard to grasp at first. However I quickly adapted my mind to the odd style and zipped right through this book.
The descriptions by Pygmy about everyday North American settings and events made me chuckle more than once. I particularly liked the description of the Walmart greeter. So true.
As for the story itself, the plot was so-so, there was a decently developed background for Pygmy, explaining his training, upbringing and adoption. The interaction with the adoptive family was, although humorous at times, well done.

This being my first Palahniuk experience (other than watching Fight Club) I was impressed. I don't think I will race out and buy his entire collection, but I will definitely add him into my rotation of authors to watch out for.

** spoiler ahead**

The one thing that lacked in this novel, and why I only rated 4 stars, is the ending. The whole story is centered around Pygmy taking down corporate and capitalist America, with his special training and karate skills. But when the time comes to realize the fruition of his mission, he just backs off and assimilates into the culture he wanted to destroy.
