Excellent, first person tour of one of the planet's least-visited environs, with a strange, European-influenced history and an aboriginal culture that affected powerfully everyone from Magellan himself to Charles Darwin to Butch Cassidy. This first of the great travelogues still holds up and captivated me during my own visit to the end of the earth. How travel writing should be done: economical, evocative, descriptive, and passionate.
