Munsch, Robert N., and Michael Martchenko. Makeup Mess. New York: Scholastic, 2001. Print.

Genre: Children’s Picture Book

Makeup Mess is a story about a little girl who saves up her money to buy herself a great big box of makeup. She puts a variety of different colors all over her face and hair, but she does not understand why her parent’s do not approve. After all, she believes she looks “Beeeeautiful!” This is a charming little story that introduces to young children that you are beautiful just the way you are. It encourages young children to have confidence in themselves and self control. This book is best for children preschool age through elementary school. Makeup Mess is also an excellent book to teach coming of age to older elementary children.
