Magic Street is a disturbing urban fantasy that explores class and racial dynamics and the danger of getting what you wish for. The concept and characters were interesting, and I always appreciate the integration of Shakespeare, but the story just didn't have the appeal of others in the genre (such as Moore's Dirty Job or anything written by Neil Gaiman) or the rest of the Card canon that I've read. I can say, however, that I liked much more than I disliked about it.
The interesting Afterword reveals that Card wrote the book at the request of a friend who wanted to see more black male heroes in fiction, and that the idea to mirror Midsummer Night's Dream came very late in the process, after he had already created the characters who became Titania, Oberon, and Puck.
