THIS STORY COVERED A BIT OF HISTORY I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT - THE OCCUPATION OF OF CYPRUS BY THE BRITTISH IN THE 1950S. THERE IS A WAY FOR INDEPENDANCE BEING FOUGHT BY THE ISLANDERS. THE STORY IS ABOUT A BRITTISH CAPTAIN AND HIS WIFE - THEY HAVE BEEN RELOCATED TO THE ISLAND ALONG WITH MANY OTHER FAMILIES. THE CAPTAIN, HAL, HAS THE LOVE OF HIS WIFE AND THE RESPECT OF HIS TROOPS. THE WIFE, CLARA, LIVES IN CONSTANT FEAR FOR HERSELF, TWIN DAUGHTERS AND HER HUSBAND. HAL LEARNS OF A RAPE AND MURDER BY HIS TROOPS IN A REMOTE VILLAGE. HE IS TOTALLY SICKENED BY THE EVENT AND FORCES A TRIAL. HIS COMMANDER DESIDES THAT IT IS BEST TO SWEEP EVERYTHING UNDER THE TABLE AND JUST RE ASSIGN THE MEN. HAL FEARS FOR HIS WIFE'S SAFETY - HIS MEN ARE LOOKING AT HIM AS A TRAITOR. HE SENDS HIS WIFE AND GIRLS TO THE CAPITAL. SHE IS NOW PREGANT AND DUE IN 3 MONTHS. SHE IS SHOT BY A SNIPER AS SHE SHOPPED WITH A FRIEND. THE FRIEND IS KILLED AND CLARA IS CRITICALLY INJURED. HAL TAKES LEAVE TO BE BY HER BEDSIDE WHEN HE IS RECALLED TO BATTLE. HE GOES AWAL AND BRINGS HER BACK TO ENGLAND.
