Obsidian Butterfly is primarily set in New Mexico, because Edward has finally called in the favour Anita Blake owes him and she goes to his home town to help him out. Therefore, the story focuses on new characters, and doesn't feature the familiar St. Louis characters we know and love.

However, this is not a problem and the storyline and new characters are so interesting that we don't mind not hearing about the old ones.

In this book, Anita learns a lot more about Edward than she previously knew and their relationship developes and grows to interesting lengths. Anita also encounters two new people, who also appear later on in the series, Bernado and Olaf, who is extremely dangerous and scary!

This book could have fallen flat on it's face because it takes the reader away from all that is familiar in Anita Blake's world, which die hard fans may have resented, but it is so well written and exciting that it is just as good as all the other books in the series. Again I would highly recommend!
