I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this book. It isn't completely original. The family is under a curse. 4 religious icons are required before the curse can be broken. (I'm paraphrasing.) This is book 4 and it didn't really matter that I hadn't read the other 3. Firebird Wilder learns that she isn't a true Wilder, she was adopted. As it turns out, and this is not as much a coincidence as it will sound, the father of her child was switched with her at birth. Doug Black only knew he was abandoned in the desert to die. He fell in love with Firebird, knowing that she was connected to his family, but not knowing how. To make a long story short, Doug didn't understand what was really happening until he had already made a drastic mistake in judgement, one that might cost Firebird and their son, their lives. It was quick-paced, action-packed and very entertaining.
