I have to say that I routinely really enjoy Rob Thurman's urban fantasy "Cal Leandros" series, despite my skepticism around the genre as a whole. Speaking to the genre in general, I enjoyed the Anita Blake ones (until I didn't), the Dresden Files (until I didn't), the Mercy Thompson series and now Rob Thurman's Cal Leandros series. Almost everything else is viewed with extreme cynicism, to a degree I would probably classify as snobby. But I've enjoyed 4 of these books, having originally started with book two, and now finally found a copy of the first in the series, Nightlife, to read. It was easy enough to follow along, but there are enough references to the happenings in the first book of the series to make me anxious to read it.

I also got quite excited to read the excerpt in the back of this one about the upcoming sequel to Chimera, which I thought was a great novel.
