I received this book through my English class in school while we were studying the American south. To this day, I can still remember the story of the old lady who lived in this one house... and what the townsfolk found after she died. This whole book is filled with impossibly complex and interesting short stories, which, if they don't precisely portray the south, do a very good job of giving an impression of what living in the American south during its great age might have been.

This is a wonderful book as a first taste of literature from the south. Or, if you just want a short story quick read, these stories will definitely make you ponder and think about them, instead of being willingly swallowed.
