I adore Susan Elizabeth Phillips, but I did not adore this book. Missing the humor, timing, and plot of many of Phillips other books, it was almost hard to push through this book. Francesca's whole life is dark and tumultuous, giving you the feeling you're reading an Oprah book club book, and her eventual husband's story isn't much better. Between the two of them they've got enough skeletons and emotional baggage to burden the reader into feeling like this book was assigned to them as homework for literature class or something. I felt like Phillips tried to go more for a serious, dramatic romance but ended up with a ball and chain instead. Definitely not one of her finest books.
