The Bullpen Gospels: A Non-Prospect's Pursuit of the Major Leagues and the Meaning of Life
by Dirk Hayhurst
by Dirk Hayhurst
Only 3 stars might be unfair. Hayhurst is an excellent writer! I really expected this to be mostly fun and light reading, but it was often not fun and was definitely not light.
I was told to expect realism but, not being a fanatic about baseball, I really didn't find many of the shenanigans that were meant to be funny, to actually be funny. I enjoyed some parts of the book, but some of the crude and graphic bathroom / nudity tales were a little much for me although. (I'm sure these tales are funny to many, so that is fine.)
Hayhurst is obviously a deep thinker as well as a nice and caring guy.
