An interesting story that as Avi describes happens surprisingly often in our countries school system where a young boy pushes the limits of a teacher and ends up causing massive disruption in both their lives. Avi is objective in his writing and the story is told with an interesting combination of conversations, letters, and personal thoughts. The trouble with the book for me was I never found myself routing for any of the characters, but I would guess that is because Avi created wonderfully well-rounded people. This book was based on a true story and as a teacher I read nervously to discover the outcome of an over-zealous boy and parents who needed something in their lives to stand behind.

Shantay Sounds like an interesting title. Is it fiction?
