Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse, #11)
by Charlaine Harris
by Charlaine Harris
I don't know why I have this feeling we will be disappointed with this installment. I just feel the series needs a closure and it doesn't seem like it. I want more Eric but I don't think I'll get all the Eric I need to get to love this series again. It feels like this book is just gonna be another chapter in the series and not as whole book. I'm not sure if I made myself clear, lol.

I totally agree Vale. This series seems to be going down hill. Too bad because I use to love it.

I understand exactly. I loved the first 6 books. The last 2 were increadibly boring- Sookie does errands and then gets attacked-Sookie does more errands, sun bathes, gets annoyed with Eric, gets attacked. It's so sad how this series has gone down hill. It was my first PNR series and it got me hooked on reading romance. Now I won't even buy it; I'll wait to check it out at the library.
Exactly. I was really hooked at the beginning! Loved it, but then each book just felt exactly like the previous one. I know the author has been creating some new species and playing with new characters but I still don't feel about this series as I was before. I believe it just needs an amazing couple of books more. And those should really give us what we're all waiting.
Is it better than the tv show that is based off of it? Cause I was debating starting to read this series after first seen True Blood. And I get directors and stuff can embellish things for tv. So I had the idea of checking out the books myself. Although I'm kind of leery as not all PNR or most authors versions of vampire romances suite what I'm looking for.
Unfortunately I agree with you Vale, I love this series but the last two books were very depressing and slow! I feel like Harris has not decided if shes gonna have Sookie become a vampire or not, it feels like she doesnt know what way she wants to go with the series so it's at a stand still. Now I'm just obsessing over the next couple of releases for these upcoming months... Last Sacrifice, Shadowfever, Archangels consort, Iron Crowned and This side of the grave!! So many good books :)
I know, I'm waiting for so many new releases to come out. Once they do I'll need to take many days free because there's no way I'll go as anything has happened. I'll need a whole day to read each release, lol.
Dhfan4life- I watched the first two season of True Blood and I thought the books were much better. The first season stayed fairly true to the book but the second was so far off and IMHO- strange. I did read the books before watching True Blood, so I am biased towards the books.

Yea, I figured the books might have a whole other spin on things. Cause although I think the tv series is a hoot. I highly doubted the author of the books would get as bloody and crazy as the tv show is. But thanks for clarifying this for me. I think I might check out a few of her books if the local library has any. Thanks again. :)
I totally understand what you are saying Vale because I, too, have the same thoughts.. I love Eric Northman but after reading the 10th book, I don't know why I felt like the author is not going to end Sookie with Eric.. Or I better should say: neither Eric nor Bill.. (Neither Sam nor Quinn..) It seems like another lover will be introduced as Sookie's interest!! man!! I don't to be it more compicated.. Lets get the wool neatly coiled back! Its a humble request to author please don't drag the series anymore! Readers will definitely loose interest! Its been 10 years now!
Did you see that this book won the Goodreads/Sony eReader Fantasy Paranormal book of the year? I was absolutely shocked!
TOTALLY AGREE!!...nothing beats book 4.. when Eric lost his memory and was walking around in his red underwear.... NOTHING!

NOTHING!"I gotta say, book 4 is my favorite of the whole series! And, this season's true blood on HBO is based on the book, I can't wait to see what they'll do with it....
as too I! I am struggling something BAD Just finished with Chapter 2 and if something earth shattering does not happen in this book then it is bye bye sookie for me.BTW I agree Book 4 hands down best of all!
It ticks me off when a great series, with characters you love, goes so downhill. I can forgive one off book in a series but I can't forgive an author when the last three to four have been huge disappointments. When was the last good Sookie book? I think since she has gone to hardback and TrueBlood has come out, the books have become unreadable.
I don't know, I really think I'll like it. I want way more Eric but I also want to know what happens with Claude, Dermot and Sam. If this book addresses any of those, I'll be a happy camper.
Not only the series has been going downhill IMHO, but is taking a new path I don't like at all. I wanted more Eric and a closure for those 2 but it seems Sookie may have a new love interest and she has way too many already. I'm sad because this used to be one of my fav series but the latest books were terrible. I don't think things can get better. For me this last book was its last chance to redeem and give us what we have been waiting for but that chance was lost for what I have read in many reviews.
I'm sorry Sookie but I think this is a goodbye for me.
I think the reason I loved this series to begin with was because it was not only my first pnr but also my first romance series- I've only been reading romance for 2 years. I now know there are so much better out there-BDB, Psy-changeling, IAD, and Night Huntress for example.
I think the same happened to me, this was the first series I read in this genre and I started it right after I read twilight. It was the 2nd series I read in my life (I started reading pnr romance, UF and romance in general a couple of years ago as well).I think I loved it so much because I had nothing to compare it with before, and now that I have read so many amazing series I'm starting to see it differently. That or the author has made some major decisions of where to go with this series...
Too funny- my story is exactly the same. I started with Twilight then found Sookie. Since I was new to the genre and didn't know what else was out there, I think I read the series 3 times. I eventually found the BDB and started reading more and more different romance series. Maybe Sookie hasn't really changed, perhaps my taste and expectations in books have.
I have been wondering that very same thing for a long time now,LOL, nice to know I'm not the only one. I wonder how many out there started like we did, with twilight and then Sookie, BDB and so on...I think there must be many like us out there,LOL.
hahahahaha I was the same. The book shop owners recomended Sookie after i pratically cried in front of him demanding another good series. But since then I have read so many more amazing series!
"It feels like this book is just gonna be another chapter in the series and not as whole book." That describes how I felt about this book completely. I was unsatisfied, like when you want a bowl of ice cream, but all that's left is a spoonful.
I knew it would be like that. That's it, I'm not gonna keep reading this series, I already had probelms with the last couple of books and unless they get solve I quit this series for good.
Kate, it only half addresses those characters. You get a teeny tiny bit of insight into them, but it just opens up a whole massive pile of questions. This book is not complete by any means. It's more of a segue into a new set of plot lines, I think.
so, this book is like $15 right now….I’ll just wait, it seems like it’s not quite worth that amount of $$$$ does that seem right??
Wow, this is the first time I get so many 'likes' about a review of a book I haven't even read yet, thank you guys,LOL.
I can totally understand how you feel. I have bought every single book, but it's getting kinds tiresome. I don't think the Ms. Harris knows how to end this series since they now have made it a television program. It has to end soon because people who have been there since the beginning are getting tired and the new people who are coming in aren't going to want to buy all of the books from the original novels or the novels based off of the Trueblood. After a while I start to give up and I dint even finish the series. She should just end it on a good note and start writing some other things. I have been reading her since 2004 and I don't even have the desire to read the last book now. Lol.
This series has started to blend together for me. I l o v e d book four and found myself wishing and hoping for more Eric. That was the only thing that got me through some for the bad plot lines afterward. Finally I got a bit more Eric and now it looks like she's not even going to end up with him, and it almost seems like Harris wants to put her back with Bill. Will be sooo disappointed if that happens. Sookie's just starting to annoy me more and more. Not liking that. What's BDB? Looking for a series to get into again. Anything to recommend?
