Read from August 18 to 29, 2010, read count: 2

This book is really good. Even though it's depressing and made it hard to go to sleep.

But, it really bothers me that this is a "young adult" book. It's INCREDIBLY violent! Have we really come to the point that just because teenagers in a novel don't have sex, it's an o.k. book for teenagers? Is sex really that much worse than violence?

I can not imagine letting a 14 year old read this. All the knifing and stoning and piercing and shooting and basic details of combat. I don't see how a movie version would be anything less than R.

Still. Great book. I've got a coupon for the next two and I'm thinking of using it.

Briana Yeah, I never really understand the double standard for kids literature, where sex gets a book banned from the school library, but violence is A-OK. If I had read this when I was 10 or 11, it would have disturbed me to no end.

The second book is excellent, by the way!
