** spoiler alert ** I chose to read this book because I loved Mark Childress' Crazy in Alabama. This book had some of the same quirkiness but a much more serious tone to it. It covered a lot of things that concern me in raising my two teenage sons going through high school. This book addresses bullying, race relations, sexuality, mixed race couples, homosexuality and dysfunctional families. Some of it was predicable but some of it was a complete surprise. I admired the main character, Daniel Musgrove for his ability to want to tell the truth and do the right thing, even if it took him a while. Tim Cousins was a piece of work as well as crazy Uncle Jacko! Some of the adults in the book were pretty hopeless. I am still pondering over the ending and how I feel about it.
