Filled with enough color photos to please any animal-loving youngster, this title should be in every humane educator’s book bag. It’s the story of the world-famous, beloved animal sanctuary known as Best Friends, nestled among the canyons in DeKalb, Utah. Readers are taken on a “tour” through the various areas of the sanctuary—those facilities set aside for cats, dogs, rabbits, horses and so forth.

With its focus on pet rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption, the overall message is an empowering one. I was very pleased to see a section in the back offering tips to promote kindness to animals—simple ideas that won’t be overwhelming to a kid.

The writing style isn’t the greatest, but it’s doubtful the target audience will mind.
