An absolutely fabulously, frustrating book and I loved every minute of it. The authors mixed a perfect balance of detail for setting descriptions and characters with enough mystery in each to keep you guessing until the very last page. I was asking questions from page 1 with minimal answers to those questions by the end, but was weirdly ok with that. Somehow I just knew that those answers would come in the second book and although I cannot wait to read the next in the series, the ending of the first was satisfactory to my expectations without leaving you on too much of a cliffhanger (but of course left you wanting more). Celia's mixed heritage does not come as a surprise, but what exactly that heritage is does and the fact that she is an 'abomination' makes it even better. There was enough action packed into the storyline to rival that of books by L.K.H. and it kept my attention, never letting on to what was going to come next. I couldn't help but cry with Celia as struggled through the death's of loved ones and faced what seemed to be insurmountable obstacles. The note to readers the authors give in the forwarding pages about the fact that Celia's childhood in no way reflects any personal experience on behalf of the authors, seemed to be an ominous warning of what was to come, but other than glossed over details we really don't find out too much about Celia's childhood. The authors seem to be waiting to reveal more in the second book about that and Celia's heritage. The rest of the character cast are immediately likable, but with an air of warning attached to them to not trust completely until we find out more. The next book already has promises of greatness and I can't wait to follow Celia on the next adventure.
