Mr. Darcy's Diary (Jane Austen Heroes, #1)

This is the Pride and Prejudice story, told from Mr. Darcy's point of view, in a series of journal entries. It was fine. It didn't blow me away, but it was okay. While I like the author's decisions in the motivations and private actions she assigned to the characters, I felt she borrowed too liberally from Austen's work.
This probably stemmed from the dilemma I imagine she was faced with in writing the book: either use backstory and/or whole sections of dialogue from Pride and Prejudice, which helps to fill in holes but is derivative and boring for Austen fans, or don't reference the original work at all, which will allow for a fresh approach but completely confuse anyone who hasn't read the original book.
On the positive side, she comes up with some original dialogue that sounds very true to the characters, and which adds wit and humor to the story. If you like Austen, it's worth a look, but don't expect it to be on the same level.
