Sharpe's Tiger (Sharpe, #1)
by Bernard Cornwell
by Bernard Cornwell
Let me preface this by saying that I have a strong interest in military history and India, so really how could I go wrong with this book? Sharpe's Tiger is set in Southern India in 1799-1800 and calumniates with the Battle of Seringapatam.
This is the first book in the Sharpe series and the first Sharpe book I have read. Yes it was a bit over the top, yes some of the characters were over-cooked but how could anyone not like the character of Private Sharpe?? Strong, brave, street-smart, an honorable rogue, a true rough diamond. The mix of historical fact with the sometimes over the top fiction of Private Sharpe's extraordinary life and cunning brilliance makes for an exciting read from beginning to end.
