** spoiler alert ** I was willing to forgive some of this book's sloppiness (multiple points of view; no tonal shifts between characters; general wordiness; an annoying obsession with what people are wearing) for the sake of an interesting concept and characters . . . but then the concept turned out to be a pretty standard evil-conspiracy-of-good-looking-wealthy-people-who-live-forever-type plot and the characters turned out to be shallow and annoying.

If you're looking for a thriller with a race-to-find-the-clues plot, read Angels and Demons.

If you're looking for clashes between good and evil, with fantasy creatures existing in a realistic world, try Tim Powers' Declare (Cold War period) or The Stress of Her Regard (1800s).
