recommended for: those who like reading about female friendship
There is something sacred about female friendship. Vivi, Caro, Necie, and Teensy have been friends for over 50 years, and these ya-yas have been through it all. Their friendship is the most important thing in their lives. Combined, these women have 16 kids. The book focuses on Sidda, who, in the beginning of the novel, has made her mother, Vivi, one-hundred percent furious with her. Sidda's life falls apart at this point, and she goes on a quest to learn about her mother, her mother's experience has a ya-ya, and find herself, along the way. Reading this reminds you that no matter what tough times your parents have put you through, they are still your parents. It also reminds you that friendship can't be replaced with anything else. Just as a warning, Sidda and Vivi's relationship became more strained then I thought it would - I truly thought this was more of a feel-good book, but there are some real, serious issues.
