Unsettling is the word I'd use for this book. The epic last days battle of good vs. evil heats up very literally in The Second Sun. It's hard to imagine facing such evil. I'm not sure I'd want to. The book bounces from one storyline to the next and of course in true series fashion leaves questions unanswered and fates undetermined making the reader need to move on to the next book to look for answers. I felt sad to see a likeable major character killed off, but I suppose in this cataclysmic battle there will be many casualties along the way. Chris Stewart's The Great and the Terrible series is an odd mixture of a Mormon drama centering around characters from the premortal existence contrasting with a suspenseful political tale complete with details of the horrors of war and the driving forces of evil and their impact on saints and sinners alike. Not for those who like their LDS books all wrapped up with happy endings and love overcoming all obstacles, no matter what they may be.
