Skulduggery Pleasant, a self chosen pseudonym (after all, real names and given names are dangerous). A detective, elemental wizard (works with fire, air, water and sometimes earth), smart mouth, hard-case and walking talking skeleton, who died hundreds of years ago. He carries a gun, has a powerful right hook and keeps coming even if he loses a leg bone, or skull for that matter.

Stephanie, a twelve year old girl who does not have enough sense of self preservation to be scared and back off when she should. She is loyal, and brave, and thinks the world of magic is wonderful. Won't take no for an answer; invites herself along on Skulduggery's adventures.

The bad guys, Cthulhu Mythos doomsday cult.

It started a bit flat & boring, but now I've clued into the dry deadpan humor, and the action has really kicked in. It's great. I will definitely be reading the sequels.
