really liked it

Scholars of ancient and pagan deities will have sparks of recognition every few pages as the author makes vague references to even the most obscure of them. I however recognized allusions to only a few and was not inclined to do research. A knowledge of these gods, however, is not necessary to appreciate the creative universe Gaiman imagines. The pace slows at times, but overall the plot is fluid. (I would have liked oftener revelations.)

This is the first work by Neil Gaiman that I've read, and after finishing the book I began to research his other titles, wondering whether he is one of these authors that is an acquired taste. Having read some of his poetry and heard a few interviews with him, I think he is indeed just that.

On to the next in this series...
