The Dragon Factory (Joe Ledger, #2)

Joe and the DMS are up against a new group of monsters and their “kids” in the second installment in Jonathan Maberry's series of Joe Ledger novels, The Dragon Factory. Picking up only weeks after Patient Zero, one of the most refreshing and captivating entries into the Zombie genre, Joe and the boys sniff out a doomsday plot on an unimaginable scale. The baddies are eerily insane in their pursuit of genocide, and the good guys are just as crazy about stopping them. What makes Maberry’s books so likeable is the pace that he carries throughout. From page to page you’re taken through a thrill ride of provocation, vengeance, and unease that slowly feed you into the hands of madmen. If you’ve been turned to this book in the hopes that there will be more of the hungry, not quite dead, you’ll be disappointed to know that there is nothing but brief mention of them here. If you can take a breath and dive in anyway, you’ll love what you get out of it. It’s the same blow by blow melee only in a new cage. Joe chases the new crop all over the Caribbean and the main land in his relentless, stalking demolition of their life’s work. If you’ve read any of the Pine Deep trilogy books, you’ll be reminded of and love how Maberry ties his fictional villains into reality to set the eerily believable evil that they command deep into your heart. The way that the plot settles into conclusion leaves you with a feeling of respite while, at the same time has you itching for another taste, is one of Maberry's true strengths. The Dragon Factory is a solid read at worst, but probably, one that you’ll need to keep on the shelf for years to come.
