Another OK book, more emotionally charged than the others, same theme though. When it comes to SK's love stories, it only takes minutes for the attraction to grow, days to yearn for the other, and less than a month before they end up together. She builds the sexual tension so expertly you'll feel like the characters are about to combust at any given situation, whether it's life or death.
It started out with not exactly deception, but the truth withheld. It's like I've read something like this before; the hero's wary of trusting females because of a previous near-death experience due to a female, and just when he started to break the barriers, another female whom he thought was different betrayed him, but there was a misunderstanding. Although I can't blame Devyn for immediately feeling betrayed, I guess it's a normal primary reaction for what happened, he's still close-minded about things.
Just when things were getting better for the both of them, Alix ran away because of her fears, still being terrified of her past, present, and future, she can't trust Devyn for her safety so she wanted the easy way out. At least she had second thoughts so she came back and things started to get better from there.
Though I didn't enjoy the league books, I give credit for the creativity in the setting, the matriarchal customs, and the conflicts.
