I think that the Kite Runner is an inferior book: unconvincing, manipulative, sentimental, and pandering. Well this book makes the Kite Runner look like a masterpiece. It is also about an immigrant from a dangerous country (in this case Nigeria)who meets up with an English couple while they are all being terrorized by Nigerian killers on a beach. The Englishwoman's story and the Nigerian girl's come together in a soap opera of improbabilities and sentimental sludge. Inflamed by a righteous sense of justice, the English woman becomes a crusading journalist in order to "tell the stories" of Nigerians. The only entertaining element is that the woman then becomes like her four year old son who won't take off his batman suit.
