Paul is gay, but it is not a big deal. Paul has known he was gay his whole life. The story centers around the issues his friends and the boy he falls for with encountering their sexuality where there is any confusion. What I liked about this book was it is a positive book based on a homosexual character for teens. Yes Paul is fighting not only relationship issues but also average high school problems. I enjoyed that you could read a book with a gay protagonist and not feel nervous serious trouble is brewing. This book is simple but it is also very whimsical. The relationships and friendships Levithan creates are strong and the characters only slightly complex. I would recommend this book for any high school library as a nice addition to what are mainly sad stories about growing up homosexual. This is not an AIDS story or a discrimination story. It is a love story, and it's lovely.
