So, I really wanted to like this word parking lot. I wanted to serve it a plate of you-the-bomb. Hitting the rewind button on RL, the beginning of this book had me palming the snooze button. There was a whole lot of wake me when this junk gets good going on. What's doing, JR? What? You know us fans love some action, true? Blasting some Jay-Z rhymes in the background, I sucked it up and read the dang thang. And wouldn't you know, it started to get good on me? I was feeling some this-book-is-kinda-growing-on-me-for reals. I think this book released a bonding scent on me, you feel me? I couldn't put it down after the sun ducked for cover.
Maybe because it was psycho Lash, I even paid attention to what's doing with the Lessers. He must have 70% control in crazy stock because I busted out with giggles when he left that message on V's machine. Funniest. Villain. Ever.
What had my eyebrows rubbing my hairline was the change in Xhex. She wasn't that likable before. I won't front, if I knew I could beat her in a fist fight, I would have written it in one of my previous reviews, but her being an assassin and all had me going all Kindergarten with the zipper on my mouth. But trauma will change you and Xhex had her cake and all, and wouldn't you know, I started to like the Sympath. Great, now I feel like a Nancy or something. John was still adorable. He stuck by his woman like white on rice, even when she was going all Atkins Diet on his feelings. They were so romantic in a we're-both-killers kind of way. And ain't that something to write home about.
I missed the Brothers in this one. Whenever one of them felt like putting in an appearance in the books' real estate, I felt myself grinning so hard the sides of my mouth caressed my ears, you feel me? Seriously some Mary Poppins type love going on here.
And wouldn't you know, at first reading about Thor and Darrius was a bore. I won't front, I skimmed those sections like milk. But it started to get interesting so I had to go all Back to the Future Part III on those parts.
Say whatever you want, I wasn't feeling the whole Blay/Qhuinn/Saxton thing. It almost seemed forced. But almost as much as I love extra sharp cheddar cheese, I love Blay, Quinn, and Saxton. And just like you do with someone you love, I tapped the ignore switch on the cheesiness of their storyline. And cheese it was. Extra. Sharp. Cheddar. Yum, yet still cheese. Ya heard?
And wouldn't you know, JR. Used. These. Four. thiiinnnnngggsss a buttloooooooaddd of tiimmmeesss throughout-the-book. Oh and I SO don't want to forget how much she SO used that word. But like a Nancy, I still liked everything and served it with a side of 3.5 stars. Like the good ship Titanic, I was doomed from the second time I picked up one of her books. My second time sealed the deal. And like one of Rhev's old customers I'll buy the next book she puts out. Addiction, much?
--------------
Upon further reflection I didn't like this book as much as I thought. I missed the brothers. I liked writing the review though, so that's something, right? 2 stars!

I hope it picks up because it's kind of boring right now.

Ha! I am really liking the Blay/Qhuinn story and getting a little more of a look at Darius/JM "shaddow" and of course I am a big fan of Payne. I got about another 100 pages to go.
Hey I like it now. I think Blay's line is kind of cheesy, but I guess he'd kind of "young" so that's why. I really like Xhex in this one. I was afraid I wouldn't, but it's better than I thought it would be.I like Payne, too! I like it better when the brothers make appearances. I find myself smiling at all the little parts they have in the book. I don't know how may pages I have left. I'm a little past Blay going to Saxton's place.
I know what you mean, I feel like I know all the brothers after reading their books and it's like a reunion. Payne is supposed to be getting her own book - I think next - so this book is setting it all up I think.
I'm still glad I'm reading this one though. Crap, the last thing I need is to like a series, but JR keeps you interested (with the exception of Phury). I want to see what will happen with Payne.
It's funny because I reread Phury's book and it wasn't so bad the second time around - granted I skipped a lot of the parts when he was in his own head. I forgot that I kind of liked his female, he was just so damn annoying.
I don't know Jaimie.... I'm sure it's not that bad. I just can't bring myself to read it. They just basically ditched him after his book anyway. I don't think I'm missing much, which is too bad because he had awesome hair. (Yes, nothing to do with anything!)
I'm not saying you should go back and read it because you already know pretty much what happens in it - I just found it odd that I enjoyed it the second time and wanted to throw it the first time. I skipped a lot of his stuff though - I forgot that when he was all drugged out he had this voice in his head urging him on that he called the Wizard and that was one of the things that drove me nuts so I just skipped it on the second go.
Ha! I LOVE your review!!!! You def know what's doing. I always kind of hate/loved Xhex. She was jsut to bad ass not to like and too hard core in regards to John not to want to punch in the face. BUT in this book she won me head over heels - and it didn't feel forced like with some of the other females in other books. I could actually see her opening up during her breaking down. AND we got to see her in a dress! I have to admit that the ending was maybe a little to Happily Ever After but I dug it. Blay/Qhuinn/Saxton was bittersweet but knowing Ward it was all so that in the next book she can bring it all to a head. V and Payne's relationship is going to be GREAT! I think I am anticipating Payne's story as much as I did JM.
Thanks Jaimie! I still stand by my cheese claim - too harlequin for me! I too am looking forward to seeing what happens to V and Payne.
Isn't it bad though? I get embarrassed just thinking I wrote this. Anywho, I prefer the term "loser". Oh, wait....
Hahahaha! The bonding scent... hahahaha! I think I'll lower my rating to 2 stars. It has not been sticking with me. Every time I see it mentioned, I think about how underwhelming it was.
I am this close (well if you could see my hand gestures that would make more sense) to 2 stars Peep as you can see from my review. In fact, I think you talked me into it!

Lol :PThat's a very talented pen you wield! I was a rabid BDB fan until I got to V's book. I kind of stumbled with that one, but Phury's book darn near killed me. Since Butch's book the series just hasn't been the same at all and I don't enjoy the books nearly as much as I used to--but that's probably because I'm a romance author and I need the focus to be on the development and growth of the love story. I'm a sap, it's true.
I totally agree with you about the books. I don't like the series as much as I used to. In fact, I haven't read Phury's book because I know I wouldn't like it. You've seen my review for V's book? Yeah, still haven't read the end of that one. My new series that I can't resist is the Psy/Changling ones by Nalini Singh. Nothing wrong with being a sap!
I just love your reviews! I laughed my butt off with this one! You are too much! lol :) Honestly, BDB is my crack. I can't put those suckers down!
Hahaha! Thanks so much! I am now into the Immortals After Dark series (though I hated Regin's book) and the Psy-Changling books! I haven't found a new series though. I need one that already has a ton of books out! Hahahaha.
I don't want to, but I know I will. Maybe not as soon as it comes out though. I just know something is going to happen that will annoy me. Plus, I tend not to like the books that don't focus mainly on one of the brothers.
