I realize the author did not have much historical material to stretch it into a fairly entertaining 200 page book. Yet every other paragraph included statements like, "may have," "not sure," "could have," or "seems likely." That got old after a while. The historical anecdotes, hypotheses, and musings were nice and added flavor, but I really read the book to learn more about the mystery man in the title. How else will I know who's telling the truth next time a bunch of guys yell "I'm Spartacus!"
